The Uintah High School wrestling team, and their coaching staff, is holding a Uintah High School Fall Wrestling Clinic Oct. 28-30 at the Uintah High School wrestling room, and is inviting all youth interested in wrestling to participate in the event.
The event features instruction by Vernal’s Ryan Lewis, a 21 time All-American in all wrestling divisions, as well as Vernal’s Trevor Murray, a two time college All-American wrestler, and a Uintah High School alumni. Both men currently work as assistant coaches on the Uintah High School wrestling team.
The two will be supported in their instruction by head coach Greg Stensgaard and the Uintah High School wrestling team and staff.
Two separate age groups will be trained, with 1st through 5th grade wrestlers beginning instruction at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., and 6th through 9th grade wrestlers beginning instruction at 3:00 p.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.
Registration forms can be picked up at all Uintah School District schools, or can be picked up and filled out on the day of the first clinic. However, the wrestling staff requests that those who have not registered earlier arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the event in order that everyone may complete registration in time for the start of the event.
All proceeds benefit either the Uintah Junior High School wrestling team, the Vernal Middle School wrestling team, or the Uintah High School wrestling team, depending on the age of the students enrolling.
“We’re trying to teach proper skills and drills to the kids before wrestling begins for the year,” said head coach Greg Stensgaard.
“With the level of coaches that we have, we feel we can help these kids achieve great things as they mature. If they learn these skills at their age, they’ll become better sooner. We’re going to teach them skills that will help them wrestle at a higher level.”
The Vernal Junior High School wrestling team registration will be held, for grades 5-9, on November 9 from 3-5:00 p.m. in the Vernal Junior High School wrestling room.
Team Extreme registration, for grades 1-4, will be held at the same location and the same time.
