The Wilson family welcomed their newest member; baby Levi Wilson, born on Feb. 1 at 4 a.m., in the front seat of the car on their way to Ashley Regional Medical Center.

Sarah Wilson left her home in Manila, after just a few contractions, making sure she was really in labor before heading to the hospital in Vernal.

Around 4 a.m. last Wednesday, Wilson and a few of her family members were coming around the bend by Steinaker Reservoir when she gave birth to her sixth child, Levi.

“This hasn’t happened before, it was really surprising,” Wilson said. “He came faster than I thought he would.”

The Wilson’s have family in Vernal and brought their younger two children with them, thinking there was enough time to drop them off with family before heading to Ashley Regional Medical Center.

Even though the drive from her house usually takes about an hour-and-a-half, they made it to the hospital in just under an hour with her husband Brodie driving nonstop with 911 on the phone.

“He was on the phone with 911 to give them a heads up that we were coming and it was when he was on the phone that the baby was born,” Wilson said. “They said I needed to take my finger and sweep out his mouth, I did it, but I knew he was breathing because he started crying right away.”

Right after he was born she asked her daughter in the back seat for her blanket and she wrapped her new baby in it.

Brodie said when he heard the baby cry he wasn’t worried about the baby and his concern went to his wife’s safety and he only wanted to get to the hospital as fast as he could.

Wilson said it was dark in the car and didn’t know for sure he was a boy because ultra sounds can be wrong and said she was in too much shock at first to check. The cord was clamped off and the cord was cut by her husband in the front seat after they arrived at the hospital about five or six minutes later.

“Before they took him inside I checked to make sure he was a boy and said ‘ok you can take him, I just wanted to make sure,’” Wilson said laughing.

“I didn’t think something like this would ever happen,” Alena Wilson, said about her new little brother.

Levi weighed 8 lbs, 4 oz and was 20 inches long at birth, he was welcomed promptly into the family by his five siblings, Alena 14, Cody 12, Sydney 10, Nyah 5, and Evan 2.
