Dixie poses week 3 challenge
After a 27-16 loss to Castle Dale’s Emery High School last week, the Uintah Utes have their work cut out for them as they take on Dixie High School on Friday night. The 3-A Flyers from St. George are 0-2 this season — but don’t let that throw you. Over the course of those losses, Dixie scored 69 points against competitors, falling to Springville 55-48, and Bear River 32-21. A big part of Dixie’s plan to win against Uintah will be their quarterback, sophomore Blake Barney. Barney passed for 315 yards, completing 21 of 45 attempts, with three touchdown passes and a bomb of 71 yards during the loss to Springville. Barney also had nine carries for 43 yards and a rushing touchdown during the game. Dixie receiver Wyatt Gatchell also had a big night against Springville with nine receptions for 148 yards and a touchdown. Uintah quarterback Kalin Leyba says Dixie’s big numbers won’t matter to the game plan for the Utes. “We’re going to be well-prepared. We’re going to put people on them and they’ll feel the pressure. I don’t care what their numbers are,” said Leyba. Dixie has been a perennial football contender, with a trip to the 2009 playoffs on a 6-3 regular season record. The Flyers went three rounds before being eliminated by Springville. The matchup between Uintah and Dixie kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday night at Snow College in Ephraim.
