Irma Toone
Irma Toone

Irma Eliza Toone went home on Jan. 15, 2012, after many life-long struggles. She was born one of nine children on May 22, 1917 in Greendale, Utah to Oscar and Emma Swett. She married Hyrum Charles Toone and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on January 7, 1942.

Irma loved her life on the Swett Ranch where she met Hyrum. They lived a long life together with many wonderful memories of their children and grandchildren. She loved growing a garden and feeding her family, neighbors, and relatives. She bottled all of her food and was a wonderful cook. The donuts that she made for her family were the best. She learned to enjoy quilting from her mother and used her quilting skills to warm her loved ones. She would say, “If you wonder how much I love you, count the stitches in your quilt. I put love in each one.” She loved her family and loved to care for them. She loved singing all the songs from her generation, and shared them with her children.

Irma lived the last two years at the Beehive Home where she was loved. She treasured them as well.

Irma and Hyrum had nine children; Grant Wilford (deceased) Becky Toone, Elaine (Karl) North, Walter Joseph (Linda) Toone, Rayola (Graham) Emmel, Reah Allred, Joan (Roger, deceased) Allred, Nolan Charles Toone (deceased), Lawrence Oscar (Patricia) Toone, Michael James Toone (deceased), 40 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the Ashley 2nd Ward LDS Chapel on North Vernal Avenue. Viewings will be Friday evening from 5-7 at the chapel and 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery under the care and direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
