Tantric concert set for Friday night
The alternative metal-rock band Tantric will be performing at Western Park on Friday at 8 p.m. in conjunction with the Uintah County Fair. Based in Louisville, Ky., Tantric is currently on tour and finishing work on a new album to be released in early 2011. Tantric will be performing songs from their four albums: Tantric, After We Go, Tantric III and Mind Control. “Every show is adapted to the energy of the audience; we play different things each place we go,” said lead singer Hugo Ferreira. The band also includes Kevin Figueiredo on drums, Joe Pessia on guitar, Erik Leonhardt on bass and Marcus Ratzenboeck on electric violin. Figueiredo is new to the band; he joined only a couple of months ago, previously playing with Extreme. Figueiredo was considered for the drumming position because he had previously played in a different band with Pessia, who knew he was good. Many of the original members of the band were from Massachusetts and were childhood friends. Over the years, the group has gone through many lineup changes. But one constant has been Ferreira. “This life isn’t for everyone, and sometimes you just want to be at home in your own bed,” he said. The music means a lot to Ferreira, who writes the lyrics. “The lyrics are based on observation and personal experience. The lyrics are the most important part of my songs; I enjoy writing things people can relate to.” They band is excited to be performing in Vernal. “I enjoy small towns because the concerts become more of an event,” said Ferreira. “Bigger cities become jaded to bands coming.” Tantric was founded in 1999; their debut album Tantric went platinum. In previous tours they have accompanied Kid Rock, 3 Doors Down and Shinedown. For information on tickets, call Western Park at (435) 789-7396.
