Students of Royal West Martial Arts in Vernal at the Saturday, Feb. 27 Utah Junior Kyukido championship in West Valley City.

The students are instructed by 6th-degree black belt Bill Hall and 2nd-degree black belt Levi Sanchez.

Competition consists of forms; wherein students compete by performing a set series of kicks, strikes and blocks in prearranged sets. They also compete in sparring division where the competitor scores points by throwing kicks, punches and strikes.

Eleven from Vernal competed. In the back row, there is Shad Williamson; Red belt second in sparring and third in form, Pedro Chacon; Yellow belt, second in sparring and first in forms, Levi Sanchez, first in sparring and first in forms.

In the middle row there is Joseph Moon; White belt, third in sparring and third in forms, Kalab Boyd; Yellow stripe, second in sparring and third in forms, and Vicente Flores; Yellow belt, first in sparring and second in forms.

In the front row, there is Devin Price; Yellow stripe belt, first in forms, Kaylee Moon; White belt, third in sparring and third in forms, and Rorik Barker; White belt, first in sparring and second in forms. Not pictured is Makendrie Gardner, White belt who was first in sparring and first in forms.
